Line Clearance Apprenticeship
LCTT Advancement and Training
The IBEW Local 17 LCTT Advancement and Training Committee has details on a training program for Apprentice Line Clearance Trimmers employed by Line Clearance companies in the Local 17 jurisdiction. The length of the training program is 30 months, vacation and holiday time included, but not including lay-offs or time off for injuries.
Subjects covered:
- Standards of Training Apprenticeship Agreement, job duties, proper work attire, personal protection equipment
- First Aid-CPR/AED
- Electrical systems, nominal voltages, voltage identification and minimum separations
- Fundamentals of tree rescue, basic knots and hitches
- Hands-on tree and aerial lift rescue
- Climbing gear - proper fit and use of
- Ropes: care, construction, characteristics, and use of
- Traffic control flagging, and securing the work area
- ANSI standards, job briefing site and tree inspection, and working in a tree
- Midcourse quiz covering portions of the material from lesson 1 through lesson 9
- Recertification of CPR/AED
- Lift truck and chipper visual inspection and proper operating procedures
- Chain saws and hand tools: care, maintenance, and proper use of
- Tree trimming and removals
- Knots, hitches, and rigging
- Specialized equipment
- Final exam
